About Ellijay, Georgia

Ellijay is the anglicized form of the Cherokee name Elatseyi, meaning "new ground".[4][5]

Gilmer County was cut from Cherokee County in 1832, and Ellijay became the county seat in 1834. Ellijay existed as a remote mountain community until the Marietta and Northern Georgia Railroad (later the L and N) arrived in 1884. This prompted something of a boom in the timber industry, but the area remained relatively isolated until the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway (Georgia 515; named for Georgia governor and U.S. senator Zell Miller) was completed in 1991. The city holds an annual Apple Festival in October, and Gilmer County is known as the 'Apple Capital of Georgia'. The Apple Festival is a nationally recognized festival that occurs on the 2nd and 3rd weekends of October. Tourists from as far as Hawaii and Alaska come to try Ellijay's world famous apples and other vendors' apple products.Ellijay lies where two rivers, the Ellijay and the Cartecay, come together to form the Coosawattee River

Bear Point Cabin is located high a-top Walnut Mountain (2150 ft) overlooking Ellijay and the surrounding Blue Ridge mountains of the southern Appalachians.  Start your day on the back porch with some of the most amazing views you will ever see.  The cabin has three bedrooms, all with queen size beds, two full baths,  hot tub, fire pit and access to the facilities of Walnut Mountain including their outdoor swimming pool.   The main level, with only three easy steps to get in, has most of the living area.  Two of the bedrooms, one bath, kitchen, great room, and the porch with the view are located here.  The first thing you will notice as you walk in is a wall of windows with a view to take your breath away.  The great room has a stone gas burning fireplace, large flat screen TV with DVD player (and a large library of movies to choose from, WIFI too) and comfortable seating.  There is plenty of seating as well at the dining table for 6 plus three more stools at the granite kitchen counter.  The rest of the kitchen comes with everything you could possibly need to cook your favorite meals with a gas stove  plus a gas grill (with a spare tank) on the deck.   All of the bedrooms have ceiling fans, the cabin does have central heat and air but you will be more than tempted to open the windows and enjoy the refreshing air this high up.   Upstairs is the third bedroom with a private full bathroom (shower only) and an another TV.   Downstairs is currently unfinished but is how you gain access to the large, private hot tub on the lower deck.  (Laundry facilities are also down here)  Just off the lower porch is a firepit where you can stay cozy as you see more stars than you have ever imagined.
Located in the Walnut Mountain gated neighborhood, you will feel safe and secure (an ex-president lives here on occasion).  There is swimming, tennis, natural areas to explore and even a campground if you want to send the kids out for a night.   Easy paved access right to the cabin and conveniently located just off the 4 lane highway for all those areas you would like to explore.  Everything from waterfalls to wineries is just minutes away.  So come on up to Bear Point Cabin and make some Mountain Memories!
