About Ellijay, Georgia

Ellijay is the anglicized form of the Cherokee name Elatseyi, meaning "new ground".[4][5]

Gilmer County was cut from Cherokee County in 1832, and Ellijay became the county seat in 1834. Ellijay existed as a remote mountain community until the Marietta and Northern Georgia Railroad (later the L and N) arrived in 1884. This prompted something of a boom in the timber industry, but the area remained relatively isolated until the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway (Georgia 515; named for Georgia governor and U.S. senator Zell Miller) was completed in 1991. The city holds an annual Apple Festival in October, and Gilmer County is known as the 'Apple Capital of Georgia'. The Apple Festival is a nationally recognized festival that occurs on the 2nd and 3rd weekends of October. Tourists from as far as Hawaii and Alaska come to try Ellijay's world famous apples and other vendors' apple products.Ellijay lies where two rivers, the Ellijay and the Cartecay, come together to form the Coosawattee River

Things To Do In Ellijay

From hiking to biking, tubing to canoeing, fishing to boating, Gilmer County hosts an array of outdoor activities for every enthusiast. There are multiple trails all around the county that serve all levels of expertise. We have The Cartecay River, Toccoa River, The Coosawattee River and Carters Lake. And the Ocoee River and Nantahala aren't too far if you prefer some heavier rapids. Amicalola Falls and Fort Mountain State Park are right around the corner. Nestled in the trees on a beautiful mountain in quaint Ellijay, GA, you’ll find respite and relaxation in T&M’s Creek Cabin. Located on 5 acres of wooded, creek-front mountain top, our 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom log cabin will give you ample space to breathe in the mountain fresh air and relax on the covered front porch.

Scenic twists and turns will bring you down to Briar Creek Road where your destination awaits. You’ll know you’re on the right track as you pass over the neighborhood’s covered bridge that brings you over the creek that runs through the properties.

Wildlife abounds in the shelter of the mountain top. Don’t be surprised if one or two of the many deer who call this area home welcome you to your vacation retreat. Feel free to feed the wild deer dry corn. They love it and you can watch them eat each morning with a cup of hot coffee on the porch. Quiet mornings also bring about wild turkeys as well as other critters and creatures to keep you company. Please be aware ABSOLUTELY no hunting.

You’ll have no trouble sleeping up to 6 guests in T&M’s Creek Cabin. Two bedrooms with queen beds as well as a double futon in the living room makes this cabin ideal for family get-togethers as well as a quiet weekend getaway for couples. A home-cooked breakfast each morning to accompany your deer watching is easy in our fully-equipped kitchen. Don’t plan on cooking on your vacation? No problem! Our little town of Ellijay provides a number of restaurants sure to fit everyone’s taste and budget.

In the southern summer heat of July or the crisp evening air of November, you’ll find comfort and fun at T&M’s Creek Cabin. The beautiful, crystal-clear creek that runs the length of the property will cool you down as you splash around, while the fire pit provides warmth and s’mores each cool evening.

Conveniently located halfway between Blue Ridge and  Ellijay,  no 4wd required, and only an hour from Atlanta and Chattanooga.  Shopping and restaurants are just ten minutes away.  Everything from waterfalls to wineries with day trips to Blue Ridge, Dahlonega, Amicalola Falls State Park, Ocoee whitewater rafting, apple orchards and miles of hiking and biking trails all right in your back yard.  So come on up to T & M Creek cabin and make some Mountain Memories!
